For her solo exhibition at Belvedere 21, Angelika Loderer has designed a site-specific installation for which the ground, with its ecological, economic, political and cultural narratives, represents the common ground.
The interest in the underground and the stories lurking there, in the tension between the visible and the visible and hidden, between fleetingness and permanence, runs as a common thread through the sculptor’s work. In her critical questioning of the concept of sculpture with regard to form-finding and authorship, the artist sometimes chooses to engage in a creative dialogue with non-human creatures whose habitat is the earth: she appropriates caves and passages generated by animals as casting moulds or uses the growth processes of fungal mycelium as a formative and material-changing element.
