Alexandra Leykauf analyses the gaze, which can be technically reproduced in a variety of ways since the invention of photography. In doing so, she creates pictorial spaces that initially seem to have little to do with photography. The exhibition leads along a parkour of architectural elements that reproduce reproductions of reproductions as individually moulded displays. The alternation between different levels of reproduction repeatedly creates trompe-l’œil effects between the two- and three-dimensional – and thus reflects the relationship between view (space), canvas/display and image.
For the first time, Leykauf brings the five new picture panel objects produced for the Prospect exhibition at Camera Austria directly together with her video works, creating thematic clusters that convey themselves transmedially.
