Scottish-born Rebecca Jane Arthur works primarily with moving images and writing. Her works portray people and places, and she is interested in the way personal stories depict socio-political contexts and history.
A concert ticket from 1967, which Arthur found in Vienna, became the starting point for “Ready-mades with Interest”. In the film, the artist, in dialogue with her father, explores the socio-political background of Austria to the music played that evening – from the waltz era of the Strauss family to the rise of fascism and its traces in today’s politics. The ticket and a letter from the father become supporting “readymades” that inspire reflection on the intertwining of past and present. At the same time, the film becomes a touching portrait of her father.
