His works always play around the boundary between photographic image space and real exhibition space. In Bildraum 01, for example, the variable spatial structure Grey Matter meets photographed figures that Köllerer has assembled from this very structure. For the Soliloquy series, he photographically stages painted frame pieces that are used in the room as frames for the resulting images. His own person or his hands are also sometimes involved in these settings. The subtle interlocking of the virtual in the photographs with the physical conditions in the exhibition space, including the different time levels in which all of this takes place, is always noticeable.
