Margo Sarkisova, the young Ukrainian artist, has already had to flee twice because of the war: from Donetsk to Kharkiv in 2014 and from Kharkiv to Graz in 2022. In the current exhibition, she is showing her artistic research project “6769”, which explores her dual heritage as a Ukrainian and an Assyrian Christian. How can the concept of individuality be reconciled with her origins? What does the gender-specific socialisation of women look like? Many of her pictures feature symbols such as roots and flowers: An example that alludes to the artist’s coping with her experience of flight: The figure of the gardener, which she explores in her works, is shown as an image of the future “peaceful soldier” who never stops planting metaphorical seeds for the future.
