The first prize for contemporary art was established in Styria back in 1959. Back then, it was called the “Joanneum Art Prize”. It subsequently gave rise to the current Styrian contemporary art prize, which is open to all artists born in Styria or whose main place of residence is here.
As usual, the competition exhibition, which awards prizes and grants from private sponsors in addition to those from the Province of Styria, will be organised by an external curator. Magda Radu (Bucharest) will curate the exhibition in 2023.
