As part of Vienna Art Week 2023, the renowned artist Joonas Lahtinen presents his installation Love Letters – an installation with four tickers, a participatory experiment, a declaration of love to love letters and to the oeuvre of Jenny Holzer, with whom the artist Joonas Lahtinen has been working intensively for several years.Love Letters deals with questions of intimacy, authenticity, “fandom” and the (supposed) separation of the public and the private, bringing to light the performativity of texts and texting.In the talk between the cultural theorist, curator and professor Elke Krasny and the artist Joonas Lahtinen, the art-historical, cultural-historical and socio-political contexts of love letters and letter writing will be discussed and “confessional culture” and the politics of participatory art will be explored on the basis of the installation. Afterwards, the first love letters from visitors will be fed into the installation.
