A thread helps the Athenian king’s son Theseus to find his way out of a labyrinth – Ariadne’s thread. We encounter threads in myths, in language – who hasn’t heard of the “common thread” – and also in art. We need it to find our way through the labyrinth of the world and our society.
The Ariadne’s thread is the theme of the exhibition, processed in different contexts in the heterogeneous works of the artists Sofie Fatouretchi Royer, Olga Georgieva, Michela Ghisezzi, Margit Hartnagel and Loretta Stats.
It becomes a point of reference, opens up spaces for thought and association and acts as a guide through the exhibition. In Deleuze’s terminology, the thread would be a synonym for the process of individuation, whereby questions of social theory such as identity, difference, individuality, universality, quantity, quality, relation, essence, space, time and cause are negotiated individually by the five artists.
