This year marks 60 years since Dr Martin Luther King Jr. became an icon of the American civil rights movement with the “March on Washington”. His moving speech I have a Dream against discrimination and for equality has become legendary.
In the art project #wehaveadream, ten socially engaged Styrians who have themselves been affected by racism present their dreams, reflections and demands. Based on the text of the speech and their own experiences and ideas about diversity, respect, unequal treatment and racism, positive developments, changes in ideas and existing wishes are depicted photographically.
The photographs by Anita Asante, Godswill Eyawo, Djenabou Fontaine, Adjanie Kamucote, Angondia Jennifer Kamucote, Peninah Lesorogol, Magdaline Okumu-Hartwig, Fred Owuso, Samson Ogiamien and Pauline Riesel-Soumaré promote a socially respectful approach to diversity in a very individual way, deliberately playing with the style of political campaigns.
To emphasise the hyper-realistic character of the photographs, the artists Mohammadi and Hainzl use artificial intelligence as an artistic method.
