True to the motto from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “Faust II”, the International Bruckner Festival Linz 2023 will focus on muses, female musicians, patrons, dedicatees and composers, but also on women as the subject of works.
Music by Anton Bruckner, on the other hand, will not be performed at all in view of the presentation of his complete works planned in 2024 to celebrate his 200th birthday. Nevertheless, the theme has a lot to do with Bruckner, as it marks the great void in his life, in which all attempts to marry failed and contact with women beyond the family was largely limited to that with the housekeeper and schoolgirls.
In addition to the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under Markus Poschner, the orchestra will include the original sound ensemble Le Cercle de L’Harmonie under Jeremie Rhorer, the Bavarian State Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski, the Prague Symphony Orchestra under Eugene Tzigane, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Academy. Soloist concerts, chamber music and choral music (including Monteverdi’s “Marienvesper” in Linz Cathedral), but also jazz and literature round off the Brucknerfest programme 2023.
