Dance & Theater: International, contemporary, distinctive, virulent, avant-garde, discursive, political.

The annual Sommerszene festival is the artistic heart of SZENE Salzburg. For almost two weeks, important names and new discoveries from all over the world as well as Austrian and regional artists will be guests in the city with their current dance and theater pieces.

The programmatic focus this year is the presentation of dance pieces that impress with their concise choreographic signatures: In COME OUT, the renowned Frenchman Olivier Dubois creates a physical get-together for twenty-one dancers from BODHI PROJECT & SEAD to the memorable composition by Steve Reich.

Music, voice, lights and a dervish dance merge into a hypnotic show on Miet Warlop’s acclaimed evening Ghost Writer and the Broken Hand Break.

The celebrated choreographer Bruno Beltrão sends a strong political statement about his native Brazil with New Creation, while Silvia Gribaudi from Italy deals with her own biography in a wonderfully humorous way in Graces.

The festival finale sets the entire city in motion: in cooperation with the Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg, the Italian artist Marinella Senatore choreographs The School of Narrative Dance – a colorful parade with more than a hundred participants through squares and streets of the old town.

Other artists: Alessandro Sciarroni, Helene Weinzierl, Agata Maszkiewicz & Superamas, Ingrid Berger Myhre, Jule Flierl and Irena Z. Tomažin, Jasmine Ellis, Navaridas & Deutinger, gold extra & Kollektiv KOLLINSKI sozial.
