“Life is always dangerous. But when you get older, you can’t hide this fact as well as you did when you were young.”
The Swiss author Gerhard Meister has written a new play on a topic that affects us all: old age, or more precisely: aging. What actually happens to us, what new dependencies do we endure and what new freedoms do we gain?
A man and a woman together on stage: they could be anything, lovers. Relatives, friends or enemies… right?! After all, they are separated by a few decades, in terms of age. With that, the lovers are already gone, the woman notes, at least in her case, since she is the much older one. If it were the other way around, who knows.
In any case, these two encounter each other in ever new game or experimental arrangements. Mother and son, neighbor and neighbor, grandmother and grandson, patient and caregiver… yes, they could actually be everything for each other, the relationships are unclear, as are the constantly shifting balance of power. Is the old woman dependent on the young man, or is she just playing with him?!
With Heidi Maria Glössner and Tobias Krüger, directed by Bastian Kabuth.
