A piece like a roller coaster ride into the past, the distant future and back again.
What remains when the world falls apart? What else matters when everything falls apart?
In his play, which premieres in Austria, Mike Bartlett throws three sisters into a world that is on the brink. Three young women, alienated from each other and with life plans that could hardly be more different. Three women, each in their own unique way, trying to make sense of their dysfunctional lives:
A student who rebels wildly and angrily. A heavily pregnant woman, increasingly depressed about her child’s future. A minister who knows all the waters, who, after initial hesitation, tries to save the world with political means, against the interests of the economy.
Earthquake in London is a tragi-comic piece about highly topical themes, yet completely undidactic, close to people and without pointing fingers: a piece that, despite its serious subject, is gripping and touching.
