The exhibition shows works by the controversial visual and performance artist Kurt Buchwald – an experimental visual disruptor and specialist in perception.
Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, there was no artist in East Germany who used photography to conduct more provocative and extensive media, political and self-exploration. Media and cultural self-doubt is palpable in Kurt Buchwald’s work from the very beginning.
For this artist, the documentary and the intervention, two approaches with which he catapults himself into the picture, belong together and are even mutually dependent.
