The title of the exhibition could not be more factual – it is the coordinates of Mauthausen. That place whose name can no longer be heard without remembering a certain time.

A ramp with the many people who have just been pushed out of the cattle cars, emaciated people in black and white striped clothing – these images have become part of our collective memory. But the artist Marko Zink (* 1975), who came from Vorarlberg and lives in Vienna, chose a different approach to depict the horrors of the past: he photographed today’s Mauthausen concentration camp memorial site with his analog Minolta camera – deserted building complexes on seemingly wonderfully warm ones summer days.

He punched, boiled or treated the films used with chlorine and ink death before they were exposed. As a result, the photographs appear like historical finds and tell of the extinction of man as well as the wiping out of memory. Zink reflects on the change from a crime scene to a memorial site and thus conducts a complex search for clues.
