Disturbances of an existing order create new diversity. The exhibition project “mixed up with others before we even begin” at mumok in Vienna examines questions of the mutual influence of sometimes completely contradictory visual cultures and habits.
What arises from such overlays? On the basis of current artistic positions, which enter into dialogue with selected works from the mumok collection and objects from the collections of the Natural History Museum Vienna, the mixed form comes to the fore not only as an artistic, but also as a socially and politically effective guideline.
In Franz Thalmair’s exhibition, works by artists such as Leilah Babirye, Mariana Castillo Deball, Anetta Mona Chişa & Lucia Tkáčová, Nilbar Güreş, Nicolás Lamas, Slavs and Tatars are displayed and contrasted by works from the mumok collection and objects from the collections of the Natural History Museum Vienna.
