The Linz artist Gerwald Rockenschaub is known for his large-scale, abstract form inventions. His works are characterized by the principle of reduction to a few but essential elements, structures and color contrasts.
The radical minimalist’s work is simple and precise, but complex. They range from the geometric-abstract oil paintings of the early 1980s, which belong to the Neo-Geo movement, to industrially manufactured Plexiglas panels and huge inflatable PVC objects, to the more recent computer-generated animations. Sparing interventions in the architecture of the respective exhibition rooms reveal and reverse the relationship between viewer, work of art and space.
Axel Köhne designed an exhibition on Rockenschaub’s work for the Belvedere in Vienna entitled “circuit cruise / feasible memory / regulator”.
