Picture books are fantasy worlds to turn pages. Whether for children or adults, they give us the opportunity to embark on mental journeys at our own leisure and speed. And they fully express the artistic possibilities of the medium book.
A deeply impressive creativity of the artists becomes visible, who know how to bring the beauty, the wealth, the hope, but also the threat of our world into pictures. A selection of picture books from the 1960s to the present day, for example by Sonia Delaunay, Bruno Munari, Olaf Nicolai, Niki de Saint Phalle and Lawrence Weiner, gives an impression of this diversity. This exhibition follows on from the children’s book exhibitions that have already been shown in the MAK. In addition to items on loan from the Friedrich C. Heller Collection, objects from the important stock of artist books in the MAK Collection will be presented.
