Intersectional queer art practice by Katrina Daschner.
“Thousand Years of Troubled Genders”: Katrina Daschner’s film, performance, sculpture and community works of the past two decades are brought together in the exhibition curated by Övül Durmuşoğlu.
Daschner confronts, touches, hugs and dreams. She reflects on how the polyphonic but mostly invisible forms of queer experience can be translated into aesthetics. Her work tirelessly throws a sand in the works of patriarchal consensus and its everyday norms in Western society by translating various designs of a fluid physicality into stagings.
In her scripts, exposure of the body is inevitable violently, while transgressing becomes a source of lust. The exhibition will activate various locations, objects and props taken from or inspired by Daschner’s cinematic universe as installations, gathering early video works and the recently completed film Sunken Corals Rise Above. The event and art education program is modeled on their community spaces Salon Lady Chutney and CLUB BURLESQUE BRUTAL.
With her feminist-queer-anti-racist glam, Daschner’s art is a powerful tool against the reactionary tendencies of our time.
