The Wiener Festwochen believe in and promote multidisciplinary artistic visions. The worlds invented on stage defy predefined language patterns: their program is neither based on a specific discipline – nor does it focus on a theme that already anticipates what is, after all, only just emerging. Anchored in Vienna, but characterized by international appeal, they are a festival of the arts that creates a space for daring works to be designed, developed and shared with a diverse audience.
In 2022, the Wiener Festwochen will open up a space for reinvention. One of this year’s leitmotifs is the search for strategies of reinvention. 24 works will be shown of which 12 will be premiered. Many of the works presented refer to a society that is no longer where it was before … but also not yet in a new place. Emerging creatives as well as established artists* explore uncharted territory in their quest, as old familiar patterns must be left behind and new ones invented. Through the contrasts and diversity of generations and influences, space is given to a vibrant, pulsating reservoir of artistic visions and ideas. Change is strived for, but meets the question, what should change and how can an idea of the “new” be gained?
