Discover new music acts and learn new and interesting things about the music industry, that’s what you can do at Waves Festival. This year the focus is on the Danube countries, true to the motto “East meets West” – this means that the live program will feature more acts from the countries along the Danube. In addition, the Waves Festival Music Conference will dedicate part of its program to the music markets and scenes from this region. Thus, experts from Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine will be present.

The Waves Festival also sees itself as a network festival, where music creators, fans and industry insiders meet and establish contacts and exchange ideas. For example, the Slovak club scene outside Bratislava will be highlighted in separate panels, as will German festivals away from the mega-events. Kiev’s electronic music scene and its significance for urban development and a different international perception of a conflict-ridden country promise to be just as exciting a topic for discussion as the current developments in the Hungarian media landscape and the accompanying situation of the Hungarian music scenes, or the state of Croatian independent festivals, venues and promoters and their assessment of the impact of the long-standing presence of many major international festivals.

The music scenes and music markets of Moldova, Romania and Serbia, which are still rather unknown in this country, will be presented in presentation panels with representatives from the live, recorded music, publishing & sync and media sectors.

Also this year, there are numerous cooperation partners hosting specific panels, presentations and workshops, such as the Austrian Independent Label Association VTMÖ and Yamaha on the topic of (live) streaming, the Vienna Club Commission on the situation of club promoters and the women’s mentoring project MEWEM Europe.

Live performers this year include Gran Bankrott, Kety Fusco, Krekhaus, LAIKKA, Löwelöwe, Modecenter, Oxyjane and Sluff.
