The 13th Literature Festival will again offer a colorful mix of readings, literary walks, performances and concerts. The direct experience on site, the possibility of exchange and discussion, the fundamental festival idea, in other words, is to be implemented this year – in compliance with the prevailing corona-related protective measures – as best as possible on all five festival days from May 26 to 30, 2021.

The Salzburg Literature Festival will once again offer a diverse program of readings and talks, performances, literary walks, spoken word and concerts. This year’s speakers include renowned authors such as Sharon Dodua Otoo, Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Birgit Birnbacher and Marlene Streeruwitz. But the Literature Festival also gives young authors a stage to present texts that have not yet been published.

Language and sound come together at the Salzburg Literature Festival at different, annually changing venues in Salzburg’s old town – a proven concept that attracts both regular audiences with an affinity for literature and curious passers-by. This year, the Literature Festival will have to switch to the existing venues, which offer enough space to meet the current Corona requirements and are compatible with the security concept of the Literature Festival. New and particularly noteworthy this year, however, is the cooperation with the internationally renowned and recognized Marionettentheater Salzburg – after a theatrical tradition of more than 100 years (founded in 1913) since 2016 an intangible world cultural heritage of UNESCO. The poetry matinee, which traditionally brings the Salzburg Literature Festival to a close, will take place there.
