Homo Urbanus – A Citymatographic Odyssey / HDA, Graz

(c) Homo Urbanus Neapolitanus / Ila Bêka & Louise Lemoine

04.03. – 04.04.2021.

The HDA in Graz presents the extraordinary work of Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine, who are among the most important film artists in the field of architecture of our time. The exhibition shows a selection of their best-known films. Among their most recent works is the Homo Urbanus series, which focuses on the relationship between people and cities in diverse parts of the world and will be shown in full at HDA: Homo Urbanus Bogotanus, Homo Urbanus Neapolitanus, Homo Urbanus Petroburgumus, Homo Urbanus Rabatius, Homo Urbanus Seoulianus and Homo Urbanus Tokyoitus.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the HDA together with Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine as well as the directors of the Diagonale Sebastian Höglinger and Peter Schernhuber invited to a film competition in search of 1- to 3-minute short films about everyday stories from Graz city life. A selection of the most interesting films will be shown in the exhibition. The authors of the selected projects will be announced at the opening. The presentation will be complemented by semester projects by architecture students of the Graz University of Technology, organized by the KOEN Institute. The task for the 180 students in the “Beginners Workshop 2020” was to shoot a short film of maximum three minutes in groups of three, each at a given location in the center of Graz, and to capture the architectural environment. All 60 short films viewed one after the other result in a tour through the city center of Graz.
