The Brucknerfest 2020 proclaims a “musical civil war”: Vienna, a melting pot of cultural and political traditions and Anton Bruckner’s adopted home since 1868, was one of the scenes of the aesthetic-ideological party dispute between “newtoners” and “academics”, which manifested itself on a journalistic level in the so-called “music dispute”. The Brucknerfest 2020 wants nothing less than to create a musical panorama of this conflict-ridden time.
