30.07. – 12.10.2020.

An exhibition entitled “Europas beste Bauten”, which focuses on outstanding architectural projects from Europe, starts on 30.07. at the Architekturzentrum AzW in Vienna. The Mies van der Rohe Award honours projects whose visionary character serves as an orientation, if not a manifesto for the development of contemporary architecture.

This year’s prize goes to a groundbreaking housing project: a transformation of three apartment blocks from the 1960s in Bordeaux with a total of 530 units by Lacaton & Vassal together with Frédéric Druot and Christophe Hutin.

Other finalists range from a public square design in Tirana, Albania, to new combinations of living and working in Berlin. BAST received the Emerging Award for the extension to a village school in Montbrun-Bocage, France. From the almost 400 nominated projects from 36 European countries, a total of 40 projects were selected for the exhibition by the top-class jury with the participation of AzW director Angelika Fitz. These include three projects from Austria: the Federal School in Aspern by Fasch&Fuchs and a residential building by Vlay Streeruwitz in Vienna Floridsdorf as well as the Haus der Musik by Erich Strolz and Dietrich Untertrifaller in Innsbruck.
