Landkarte Bregenz

Vorarlberg might be separated from the rest of Austria by the Arlberg Mountain Range - this is how Austria's most western province got its name - "Vor" meaning "in front of" the Arlberg.

And the dialects spoken here are probably the funniest sounding of all Austrian dialects. Vorarlbergians themselves call their beautiful home "Ländle" which means "small rural region". But don't think that makes it a narrow-minded or behind-the-times place ... on the contrary: The cultural life in Vorarlberg flourishes on- and off-mainstream. Tradition and innovation, old handicraft and contemporary design, traditional wood structures and modern architecture fuse to form a dynamic cultural scene.
